Parkhayes Plantation: rare sighting of unusual species!

This occasional visitor to Woodbury Salterton was recently spotted on Parkhayes Plantation. 'Elf and Safety' appeared in the wildlife area during the scarecrow competition on 6 July. Thanks to Patrick and Gill Bricknell for creating him, and to Abbey Clarke for the photo.

Who we are

We are enthusiastic amateurs, passionate about landscape and the natural environment, offering observations on topics we are familiar with - trees, birds and wild flowers - together with some historical background.

Sally has lived in Woodbury Salterton for fifty years and has been extremely active in concerns to do with landscape history and protecting the local environment. Diana has lived here for 5 years and is trying to catch up!

Other local information

The Woodbury Village website includes some comprehensive and beautifully illustrated parish surveys of trees and wildflowers, completed by Sally Elliott and Sylvia Wickenden in 2009 and 2011.

For historical landscape information, a modern representation of the 1839 Tithe Map and supporting documents can be viewed on the Woodbury Village website. The original is available on the website of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Woodbury News carries monthly reports on the RSPB Aylesbeare Common Nature Reserve, and occasional articles relating to history or landscape.

Wild Woodbury is a new project initiated in January 2016 to enhance wildlife habitats throughout the parish.
